Why, in these troubled times, should the government protect people from themselves?

The avatar has a point people. It costs us 92 billion a year to fight marijuana alone. Mostly in local governments though. It would be hard to realize the savings. Maybe it would go to fighting hard drugs. Maybe we could put a sin tax on Marijuana?
