Yeah, I wouldn't worry. It was a little rude what you did but you know that already. He can call his service provider (AT&T, Sprint, etc.) and they will send him a new SIM card in a day or two, completely free. I "accidentally" deactivated my sister's before and it came in two days and she didn't lose any of her stuff. I doubt you'll be called down for questioning or anything.
