Why do they call it an oil spill , when nothing is "spilling"?

it spilled, didn't it? spilled all over the ocean STUPID AMERICANS WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING NOW YOU'RE KILLING ALL SEALIFE AND JUST LOOK AT THE GULF I MEAN REALLY NO ONE WANTS TO LIVE IN THAT OIL AND BLOOD DON'T EVEN CALL IT WATER ANYMORE I MEAN REALLY sorrry.....
